PMU Needle Modules Explained

What types of PMU needle modules are available? What is the difference between the various PMU needles?

The PMU Optima needle modules were developed by the leading needle brand Kwadron. These PMU needles are universal, meaning they fit any universal PMU machine. The needle modules are equipped with a membrane and are approved for use in Europe.

Below, we briefly explain the differences between the needle modules.

The configuration indicates how the needles are arranged in the module.

  • Round Liner (RL)
The needles are arranged in a circular pattern. Designed for outlining and contouring. Extremely precise, sturdy, and pointed needles. Perfect for creating details. The Round Liner is available starting with 1 needle; we call this the 1P Round Liner.

  • Round Shader (RS)
The needles are still arranged in a circular pattern, just like with the Round Liners, but with more space between the needles. This allows for greater pigment deposition in the skin.

  • Magnum (MG)
With the Magnum, the needles are arranged in two rows. This makes them suitable for shading large areas as well as for creating broad and distinct contours.

  • Flat (FL)
The Flat resembles the Magnum but has only one row of needles. The needle module leaves more transparent marks.

  • Slope (CF) / Curved
In the Sloped or Curved needle modules, the needles have different lengths. The outer needles are shorter than the middle needles, causing the side(s) of the row of needles to slope downward.

The Taper

The taper of the needle refers to the way the needle tip tapers. There are different tapers, and with some needle modules, you can choose between them.
  • Long Taper (LT)
The needle has a 7mm taper, resulting in a slender needle that leaves very precise and clear lines.

  • Ultra Short Taper (UT)
Very short taper of 2mm; a short taper ensures a more subtle and slightly waxy mark.

  • Point Taper (PT)
Each needle is ground twice, giving it an extra-sharp point.

  • Textured (T)
The letter "T" after the taper stands for "textured." This means the needle is not smooth but has a textured surface. This allows for better pigment implantation into the skin.

Needle thickness

There are 6 different needle gauges (needle diameter) to choose from. Choose the needle gauge that best suits your project.

  • 18 - 0.18 mm

  • 20 - 0.20 mm

  • 25 - 0.25 mm

  • 30 - 0.30 mm

  • 35 - 0.35 mm

  • 40 - 0.40 mm

Features

  • The needle modules contain a diaphragm that prevents fluids from flowing back into the module and stabilizes the needle for more precise work.
  • The tip of the needle module is specially designed for each needle so that the housing fits perfectly.
  • The textured tip ensures a perfect, even pigment flow.
  • The sharp needles help prevent skin trauma and promote better healing. The needles are made of hypoallergenic surgical steel.

 Round Liner

 Round Shader

 Magnum

 Flat

 Curved / Sloped

All of the above characteristics are indicated by the needle module code on the label. For example, if the label reads 25/3 RSPT-T, this indicates a module with 3 needles, each 0.25 mm in diameter, arranged in a Round Shader formation, featuring a point taper with texture on the needle.
