REACH
The European legislation for pigments will be amended as of January 1, 2022. Why exactly?
Currently, all countries in Europe have their own rules and guidelines for the production of pigments and tattoo ink. Europe wants all countries to work according to one guideline so that the same rules apply everywhere regarding pigment and tattoo ink production. These new regulations are called REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals) will have an effect on the production of the pigments. De quantities and composition of ingredients in these pigments will need to be adjusted. The use of iron oxide, among other things, in pigments is then no longer permitted. In other words, the recipe needs to be adjusted.
Are the current pmu pigments dangerous?
No, iron oxide pigments are not dangerous and have been used for years in the permanent make-up industry. The use of iron oxide pigments has never led to allergic reactions, but due to the new regulations, different requirements are imposed on the production process of the composition.
What does it mean for me?
From January 2022 you can still get the pigments of your favorite brands keep buying. The brands that we offer will all come this fall / from January 1 with an alternative line that fully meets the new REACH requirements. However, in some cases the shade of the color will have been slightly adjusted due to the new "recipe". Some colors will disappear from the range and in other cases you will see no difference in shade or color.
What do the suppliers do brands and manufacturers?
What is important for you and for us is that our suppliers are aware of the regulations and are working on them. Perma Blend (so too Tina Davies & Brow Daddy), Artist and Ever After are all adjusting the current composition of the pigments so that all pigments in the new year comply with the new European rules.
As your supplier, we will monitor and communicate the messages, regulations and information. Transparency is important so that everyone knows where they stand.
