REACH
European legislation regarding pigments will be amended as of January 1, 2022. Why is that, exactly?
Currently, all countries in Europe have their “own” rules and guidelines for the production of pigments and tattoo ink. Europe wants all countries to operate under a single directive so that the same rules apply everywhere regarding pigment and tattoo ink production. This new regulation, called REACH(Registration, Evaluation, Authorization, and Restriction of Chemicals), will affect the production of pigments. The quantities and composition ofingredientsin these pigments will need to be adjusted. The use of iron oxide in pigments, among other things, will no longer be permitted. In other words, the formula must be adjusted.
Are current PMU pigments dangerous?
No, iron oxide pigments are not dangerous and have been used for years in the permanent makeup industry.Theuse of iron oxide pigments has never led to allergic reactions, but due to the new regulations, different requirements are being imposed on the production process and composition.
What does this mean for me?
Starting in January 2022, you’ll still be able to buy pigments from your favorite brands. The brands we carry will all be launching an alternative line this fall / starting January 1 that fully complies with the new REACH requirements. However, in some cases, the shade of the color will be slightly adjusted due to the new “formula.” Some colors will be discontinued, while in other cases you won’t notice any difference in shade or color.
What are suppliers, brands, and manufacturers doing?
What matters to you and to us is that our suppliers are aware of the regulations and are working to comply with them. Perma Blend (including Tina Davies & Brow Daddy), Artyst, and Ever After are all currently adjusting the composition of their pigments so that all pigments will comply with the new European regulations in the new year.
As your supplier, we will monitor and communicate updates, regulations, and information. Transparency is important so that everyone knows where they stand.
In our webshop, we offer pigments and materials that fully comply with REACH regulations as of the date they take effect.
