The Xion Mini was released this year (2022) and is the little sister of the Xion S. But what exactly are the differences? When do you choose the Xion S and when the Xion Mini. Thirza Dekker compares the two machines and shares her findings below.

XION S
The Xion S is one of the most versatile PMU devices available, partly because we can change the stroke wheels (1.8 / 2.5 / 3.2 / 3.7) and thus work with a different stroke length. You can easily change by opening the PMU pen, loosening the screw with a screwdriver that comes with it as standard, and changing the wheel. You can adapt the Xion S permanent make-up machine for tattoos, for example. When you order the Xion S, a 1.8 and 2.5 impact wheel is included as standard. You can also manually change the impact hardness (softer or harder) with the Xion S, the Xion Mini does not have this function.
PMU specialists worldwide are used to narrow, light pens. Despite the versatility and power for precision work of the Xion S, there are specialists who found the thickness and weight of the Xion S difficult to control.Microbeau continues to develop its machines and took this to heart. She therefore made a more compact version of the Xion S. This way, specialists can still work with the Xion, but in a smaller, lighter version.
XION MINI
The weight of the Xion Mini is 88 grams, the Xion S 130 grams. Both machines use a universal RCA jack and have universal needle connectors.
The Xion Mini has one stroke option, a short stroke of 2.5 mm.
The Xion S has a variable stroke, so you can also use it for medical pigmentation, such as areola (areolas) but you can also make tattoos with it.
The Xion Mini has a short/soft stroke that allows you to do all facial work with no problem.
"The more compact the machine, the more manageable. If it is longer and heavier it can affect the movement if you don't have a steady hand."

Both pmu machines have a 6 watt patented motor specially designed by Darklab that has a constant supply and virtually no vibration.
You can adjust the impact force of the Xion Mini internally via an app (DarkLab app), not manually, unlike the Xion S. You can adjust it manually. This means that you can adjust the stroke of the wheel so that it goes softer or harder.
Please note, the stroke has nothing to do with the speed of your machine. The voltage for pmu is on average between 5 & 7.

QUALITY
The quality of both permanent make-up devices is the same and they are both simply top.If you are looking for a good PMU pen, slightly thicker than you are used to, but compact, small and light, then the Xion Mini is definitely recommended. Do you want a more universal PMU machine with more options because you also want medical pigmentation? If weight, size and price are not bothering you, I recommend the Xion S. This machine has just a few more options. What is of course great is that you can use universal needles on both machines.
I previously mentioned the app for the Xion Mini. As a nice extra, the Mini Siri has voice control capabilities and you can change the battle with the Darklab app via Bluetooth (currently only available for IOS). In all honesty, I haven't had to use this myself yet. The Xion Mini can be used for all my PMU treatments with the settings as I received it.

CONCLUSION
I switch from one machine to another. Personally for my hand on mature skin I prefer the Xion Mini. But for example a younger lady or a eyeliner I find the Xion S comfortable in my hand again.Personally, I think both devices are great and if possible I recommend that you purchase both so that you can alternate. After all, it's nice to have a family. 🤪 what's next?
