What is the best way to clean and/or disinfect the materials you use for a PMU or microblading treatment
A PMU treatment starts with mapping process. During PMU drawing, materials are used such as; pencils, concealers, brushes, tweezers, stencils, epilation and razor blades, eyebrow scissors, mapping threads, eyebrow spoolie and cotton swabs. Some of these products are desposibles, or disposable products. Others you use more than once. The materials that are reused must be thoroughly cleaned and then disinfected.

Cleaning literally means 'removing foreign material from a surface'. According to the RIVM, 'cleaning' is used when material is involved. The term 'cleaning' is used in the context of a space or environment and for the skin (RIVM, 2022).
What is the difference between cleaning and disinfecting?
When cleaning surfaces, an all-purpose cleaner in combination with disposable tissues is sufficient. Disinfecting is an action in which the number of micro-organisms is reduced to a safe level (RIVM, 2022). This can be done in different ways.Disinfection can be achieved by, among other things: boiling laundry (95∘C); boiling out of materials (10 minutes), and with the use of approved disinfectants. When disinfecting surfaces and materials, using a spray bottle with Podior alcohol at a concentration of 80% is sufficient.
It is important that the disinfectant must also be able to inactivate viruses. In practice, cleaning and disinfection go hand in hand. An object must first be clean and dust-free before you disinfect it with, for example, Alcohol Podior 80%, otherwise the disinfectant effect of this product will be insufficient.
Some tips
● Clean and disinfect before and after mapping Always process your work table, eyebrow scissors, tweezers, etc. first and always allow these materials to dry/work as prescribed before using them again.● Only use disposable brushes for applying concealers and avoid reusing brushes.
● Always break off the tip of the pencils after each customer and sharpen the pencil again with a disinfected pencil sharpener or a new blade.
● Always remove concealer from the jar with a new disposable precision stick (microbrush), cotton swab or other disposable object to prevent contamination of the concealer.
● Use disposable materials where possible.
