What is the best way to clean and/or disinfect the materials you use for a PMU or microblading treatment
? A PMU treatment begins with the mapping process. During the PMU mapping process, materials such as pencils, concealers, brushes, tweezers, stencils, epilators and razors, eyebrow scissors, mapping threads, eyebrow spoolies, and cotton swabs are used. Some of these products are single-use items. Others are used more than once. Materials that are reused must be thoroughly cleaned and then disinfected.

Cleaning literally means “removing foreign material from a surface.” According to the RIVM, the term “cleaning” is used when referring to material. The term “sanitizing” is used in the context of a space or environment and when referring to the skin (RIVM, 2022).
What is the difference between cleaning and disinfecting?
When cleaning surfaces, an all-purpose cleaner combined with disposable wipes is sufficient. Disinfection is a process that reduces the number of microorganisms to a safe level (RIVM, 2022). This can be achieved in various ways.Disinfection can be achieved by, among other things: boiling laundry (95°C); boiling materials (10 minutes); and using approved disinfectants. When disinfecting surfaces and materials, using a spray bottle with 80% alcohol Podior is sufficient.
It is important that the disinfectant is also capable of inactivating viruses. In practice, cleaning and disinfecting go hand in hand. An object must first be clean and dust-free before you disinfect it with, for example, Podior 80% alcohol; otherwise, the disinfecting effect of this agent will be insufficient.
A few tips
● Always clean and disinfect your work table, eyebrow scissors, tweezers, etc., before and after the mapping process, and always allow these materials to dry/settle according to instructions before reusing them.● Use only disposable brushes for applying concealers and avoid reusing brushes.
● Always snap off the tip of the pencils after each client and sharpen the pencil again with a disinfected sharpener or a new blade.
● Always remove concealer from the jar using a new disposable precision stick (microbrush), cotton swab, or other disposable item to prevent contamination of the concealer.
● Use disposable materials whenever possible.
